EMC, SE1 8QW
Duration
10-3.30pm

The move from GCSE to A Level has always been a bit of a leap and for many today the gulf feels increasingly wide. This new course will make sure the transition goes smoothly and that students are prepared to tackle their A Level with excitement, confidence and increasing independence. We will explore approaches which open students’ eyes to new ways of reading, thinking, discussing and writing about texts – new challenges in a risk-free context. The course will give you the opportunity to try out the activities, to reflect on the pedagogy behind them and to consider ways of building on these approaches to learning.

  • What is this subject? What does it mean to be a student of English Literature?
  • Tackling assumptions, establishing new ways of working.
  • New ways of reading: analytically, creatively, critically.
  • Writing without a frame: how to think and write confidently.
  • A talkative classroom: supporting through challenge.
  • Beyond the set texts: reading and writing widely and for pleasure.
