This short online course explores strategies to kick-start or revitalise your teaching of Dickens’ classic short novel. Suitable for anyone teaching the novel to KS3 or KS4, it will primarily look at ways to encourage students to think hard about the novel, generating ideas that they can then use in original personal and critical responses.
NB: This is a repeat course.

Andrew McCallum
Andrew McCallum is Director of the English and Media Centre. Prior to that he ran a PGCE course in secondary English, and previously he taught for 15 years in London schools, spending most of that time at Acland Burghley School in Camden. He holds a doctorate in education, is author of Creativity and Learning in Secondary English (Routledge) and writes regularly for NATE's Teaching English magazine. If asked to name the EMC publication he's most proud of having worked on, it would be a three-way contest between Iridescent Adolescent, Diverse Shorts and Write On.
Rosie Hunt
Rosie lectures on the PGCE English programme at the University of Bristol. She has worked as an English teacher and head of department in several school in London and Bristol. She is currently working towards her doctoral degree at UCL’s Institute of Education. Her research interests include the role of literature in education, dialogic practice and qualitative research methods.
