EMC CPD Online: Assessment – Principles & Practices

Availability

Price
£195 per place
Location
Online
Duration
10-3.30pm

This course draws on EMC’s in-depth assessment project work. We’ll look beyond generic approaches to assessment as applied to all subject areas to explore instead the specific principles and practices that underpin effective assessment for English. We will focus closely on how to embed responsive summative and formative assessment into your teaching, so that they work for all attainment levels across different aspects of reading, writing and speaking & listening at Key Stages 3 and 4. Given how prescriptive and constraining some school systems currently are, we will offer principles to aspire to, but also suggestions for how to make small but telling adaptations to school systems in current use. There will be a chance to share assessment approaches with other teachers in breakout rooms.

  • An overview of recent assessment research and practices in secondary English
  • Designing and implementing meaningful summative assessment tasks
  • Developing effective formative assessment tasks
  • Integrating assessment tasks with your curriculum.

NB: This is a repeat course.

Online, via Zoom. Details of how to join will be sent before the session.

  • As participants may be audible and visible, this course will not be recorded.
  • Please note: courses are designed to be watched by one participant only.

I was so impressed with the expertise of the facilitators and the content of the course. It gave me a superb opportunity to reflect on our departmental assessment practices. Thank you again for a super course! Claire Wenn, Loughborough Amherst School, Spring 2024

The whole experience was very thought provoking and inspiring. It gave me a chance to reflect on best practice and best of all, plenty of practical strategies to take away and implement straight away! Helen Pascoe-Williams, Princethorpe College, Spring 2024
