If you are an A Level Media Studies teacher looking to get more out of your theory teaching, to engage your students with theory and support them in applying it in a more meaningful way in their exams, this course is for you.

We will recap some of the more challenging areas of the theoretical framework and suggest texts, resources and approaches that can be used to engage students in the ideas they will need to apply to their set products. We will suggest approaches that will help your students to reach a deeper understanding of the issues and debates covered in all the A Level specifications, as well as helping them to be able to apply their understanding to the media they consume outside the classroom.

Attendees will also apply a theory of change to their own teaching to reflect on how media theory can improve students’ lives and have a positive impact on the media ecosystem. In this way, we will both boost our theoretical teaching and also share our experiences so we can advocate for the importance of teaching media theory to young people.

Julian will be joined by EMC consultant Claire Pollard who will present some classroom approaches to theory.

NB: This is a repeat course.
